Vermont...
In the early 1600s, Samuel de Champlain, a French explorer, was going about an area that we now know as Vermont and he happened to stumble upon quite a large lake. He names the lake after himself as Lake Champlain. Vermont gets its name from two French words, vert and mont, which mean green and mountain. This is why Vermont has the nickname of the “Green Mountain State.” A man named Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys had to defend the land during the Revolutionary War so it wouldn’t fall under British control. Vermont entered the Union in 1791 as the 14th state and is one of the six states of New England.

Vermont is one of the most beautiful states and is so beautiful during the fall when the leaves change colors that millions of tourists come for the scenery. During the winter they come for the mountains covered in snow that are great for winter sports suck as skiing and snowboarding. Vermont’s flower is the red clover and the state tree is the sugar Maple tree. Vermont is even known for its fresh maple syrup which is one of the biggest products produced in the state. Another big industry is dairy farming. The capital of Vermont is Montpelier and the largest city is Burlington, which is where Burlington Coat Factory stores originated.
