Florida...
It’s the beaches, sun, and warm weather are what give Florida its nickname of the "Sunshine State." The first person to explore the land of Florida was Ponce de Leon. He came to the area to find the fountain of youth. Florida is home to the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine, which was founded by the Spanish in 1565. St. Augustine was the oldest permanent settlement to be founded in the continental U.S. However, Florida did not become a state of the Union until 1845.

Florida’s warm climate makes it great for growing oranges; in fact, the orange blossom is the official state flower. Oranges are also the main exported product for Florida. The fact that Florida is a peninsula that sits between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean makes it a great place to vacation with its numerous beaches along every coast. Some of the most well known seaside resort areas are Tampa Bay, Ft. Lauderdale, Daytona, Miami (you may have heard of the South Beach Diet) and Key West. The capital of Florida is Tallahassee but most people are most familiar with Orlando, home of EPCOT Center, Universal Studios, MGM Studios, and Walt Disney World.

Webmaster note: Our favorite place in Florida is Key West. If you also believe (like us) that a vacation in PARADISE is well deserved, be sure to visit Try Key West - the Blog, to see just a "little bit" of what Key West has to offer.
