Delaware was the very first of the original thirteen colonies as well as the very first state to become part of the Union in 1787. The motto for Delaware is “Liberty and Independence” which well defines the state nicknames the “First” state or the “Diamond State.” Lord Del La Warr, hence the name Delaware, had been the first governor of Virginia. The land Delaware sits on was originally bought by William Penn of Pennsylvania just so that it would keep his colony of Pennsylvania from becoming landlocked.

Delaware is currently known for being an industrialized state and it is well known for chemical research. The state flower of Delaware is the peach blossom and the state tree is the state tree is the American Holly. Delaware’s capital is Dover with the largest city being Wilmington. People that live in Delaware’s nearby states known the state for its beaches, Rehoboth, Bethany, Fenwick Island, and Dewey. Also, Delaware has a great Tanger Outlet shopping center in Rehoboth Beach on the east coast.
